The Africa Group for Justice and Accountability (AGJA) and the Wayamo Foundation warmly congratulate AGJA Chair Hassan Bubacar Jallow on his appointment as Chief Justice of The Gambia. Jallow, the former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, was appointed to the position of Chief Justice by Gambian President Adama Barrow.
Following Barrow’s electoral victory over former President Yahya Jammeh, Jallow worked tirelessly to help ensure a smooth, democratic transition as well as respect for the rule of law in The Gambia.
The Africa Group and the Wayamo Foundation commend Barrow for his appointment of Jallow as Chief Justice, his demonstrated commitment to justice and accountability, and his pledge to keep The Gambia as member-state of the ICC. They also wish Jallow many successes and look forward to continued work with Jallow.
In line with their Kilimanjaro Principles for Justice and Accountability, the AGJA reiterates its commitment to offering their expertise, mediation and facilitation to The Gambia, Chief Justice Jallow, and to all states and relevant actors across the continent.
